Grown in shade covered gardens, picked ONLY once a year by hand - not machine like most teas in Japan - Authentic Gyokuro is rarely found in the USA simply because Japan can not produce enough to meet domestic demands!
As a result of our travels and good relationships with tea farmers we are able to acquire some each year. This tea is very different from a Shizuoka Gyokuro. Both delicious clearly showing the climate, attitude and personality of each Region.
Kyoto Gyokuros are more astringent than a Shizuoka Gyokuro, a trait preferred by the Japanese Aficionado. Shizuoka Gyokuro tends to be a little sweeter and steeps at a much faster pace.
Just as you might enjoy a Pinot wine from the Napa Valley as well as one from Sonoma Valley - you will find similarities and differences that are often each perfered at different times. Try them both and come to understand YOUR Personal Favorite Region!
